Summers in the Village
Summers in the Village is an awareness program promoted by Madrid’s City Hall to offer a cultural program during the months of July and August that is fit for all audiences. The design was the idea of Enrique Tierno Galvan, the first mayor of Madrid in the democracy.
One of its main features is that the great majority of the activities, (approximately 80 %) are free, while those you pay have accessible prices. In consequence, it is an interesting alternative for every audience, regardless their income level.
The second element to bear in mind is that the event programming is distributed throughout the municipality, so it also reaches the neighborhoods. If you are a tourist, this won’t be a problem for you, because Madrid’s public transportation network (metro and bus) lets you reach any point of the city.

The 2018 edition of Summers in the Village will be celebrated between June 29and September 2. There is a total of 75 events distributed among the 21 districts of the city. In this article we offer you a selection of events that we find interesting and open to a wide audience.
Day of the Asteroid
June 30is selected by the UN as the Day of the Asteroid. If you are interested in astronomy, there will be lectures by specialists followed by the presentation of the movie2001: Space Odyssey. After 21:00 hours you may attend free events until full capacity is completed in the open air auditorium of the Enrique Tierno Galvan Park, in Arganzuela district.
Alba Molina
July 4 Alba Molina offers a Flamenco-filled show based on her last workCaminando con Manuel. The concert will begin at 22:00 hours with free entrance until capacity is completed, in the Entrevias forest park’s open air auditorium, in Puente de Vallecas district.
The empire of the exotic
If you like choral music, on July 11 you have a date in Madrid’s downtown. The Coro Nacional de España offers a music concert based on Russian Works of the first decades of the XX, century, such as the Polovtsidian Dances. The show will begin at 21:30in Plaza Mayor, Centro district. Free entrance.
Poets in Puente de Segovia
Summer is a good time to listen to an outdoors poetry recital. For example, at 20:30 hours of July 18 you may attend a poetic-musical recital by Jhana, Javier Gallego Crudo &Seward and Ghostpoet. Free entrance. The event will take place in the gardens underneath Puente de Segovia, in La Latina district.
Circus evening
Thecircus is an interesting option for the entire family, because young and old enjoy it. The Amer i África and Erva Daninha companies presents eparate very inersting shows centered on acrobats and jugglers. The show will be on July 22 starting at 21:00 hours, and the tickets are free; its approximate duration is one hour and 20 minutes, and it will take place in Agustin Rodriguez Sahagun park of Tetuan district.
The Soul of God (Alma de Dios)
The farce is one of the most typically Spanish dramatic compositions, with origins in the XVIII century. Alma de Dios is a 1907 play, on which Manuel Noriega made a silent movie in 1923. On August 2, at 22:30 hours, you may enjoy the projection of the movie, set to music, in the auditorium of Parque de Berlin, Chamartin district. La entrance is free.
Gogo Penguin
If you like jazz, this is an interesting option. On August 17 de agosto, the British trio Gogo Penguin will offer a concert to promote its new work, A Hundrum Star. This event will begin at 21:00 hours, la entrance is free, and will take place in the outdoors auditorium Parque de la Cuña Verde de O´Donnell, in Moratalaz district.
Dancing in the street
There are many dance halls, but why not use the Madrilenian nights this Summer to practice your passion? On August 25 you have the opportunity of doing it in the Calle Bailen concourse, in the surroundings of the Palacio Real, Centro district. The entrance is free, beginning at 21:00 hours, with the music of grupo Alcatraz, "La Orquesta".
Night in the Park
The farewell to Summers of the Village is September 2, in Parque Enrique Tierno Galvan in Arganzuela. From21:00 hours, there will be a picnic and at 22:00 hours, a fireworks show designed by Cuqui Jerez. The grand finale, we recommend that you come.
